Nuclear Hydrogen Initiative - Chemistry Support

The NHI effort at UNLV is focused into three major categories:

We support the Sulfur Iodine Intermediate Lab Scale demonstration (SI-ILS) at General Atomics by supplying analytical resources for problems of process liquid characterization and corrosion control.

We support the High Temperature Electrolysis (HTE) efforts by providing detailed surface analytical studies of the function and degradation of the electrolytic membranes and electrodes.

We pursue opportunities in Nuclear Hydrogen systems as may become evident e.g. we are studying selective membrane/catalytic reactors as a means for dropping the high temperature step of the sulfur-based thermochemical hydrogen cycles into the 500-750° C range.
